Ba Town Flooding 2022

Flooding Updates

We are in the midst of the Cyclone Season and Ba has already faced two major flooding in the one weeks time. The first flood occurred on the 8th and 9th of January, 2021 in which most parts of Ba Town and its wards were underwater. This major flooding was a cause of the looping depression TD03F which had associated rain that affected most of the country as well. This depression later turned into a Tropical Cyclone and was named Cody which gradually moved away from Fiji. Business owners, market vendors and residents were well prepared for this flood as they had prior experience and had been regularly updated by the relevant authorities. The Second flooding occurred a week later on the 16th of January. This was after a huge amount of rainfall in just a few hours time caused the flood waters into the parts of Ba Town yet again. This flooding caught most the residents, public and market vendors with surprise as half of the day was sunny.

Clean Up Works After Flood

After both instances of flooding, the Ba Town Council team together with the National Fire Authority and The Republic of the Fiji Military Forces worked hand in hand to clean up the Town of Ba in order to return to normalcy. The Council also had the support of its market vendors who had assisted hugely in cleaning up their respective market stalls and the Ba Market in general. This shows how resilient our Ba is when it comes to surviving through these natural disasters and bouncing back to restore normalcy into the lives of our people.
